ABOUT THE CONDUCTOR

MOGENS DAHL - CONDUCTOR AND MUSICAL INNOVATOR

A number of remarkable projects in Danish music can be attributed to conductor Mogens Dahl. Based in his own concert hall at Islands Brygge in Copenhagen, he has been a key force in developing choral projects and chamber music series with an international scope.

In recent years, Mogens Dahl has focused primarily on his own chamber choir, which, through collaborations with leading Scandinavian composers, has made its mark on the international scene. The choir’s collaboration with the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment from London for performances of Handel’s Messiah at Holmens Kirke has also contributed to its reputation. This project was described in 2017 by Berlingske Tidende as ‘some of the best in Europe right now.’

Two recent world premieres are available on CD with Mogens Dahl as conductor: Nordic Mass for choir and cello, composed for Mogens Dahl Chamber Choir by Sven-David Sandström and performed at the Bergen International Festival in 2014, and the same composer’s Passion of St. John, performed at Konzerthaus Berlin, Bachwochen in Erfurt, and Holmens Kirke in Copenhagen.

Previously, Mogens Dahl has conducted numerous TV and radio productions, as well as stage productions at venues including Stockholm Opera, Staatstheater Kassel Opernhaus, Aarhus Theatre, Jutland Opera, The Other Opera, Olavsfestdagene in Trondheim, and Funen Opera. He has also been a guest professor at Belo Horizonte University in Brazil.

In 2005, Mogens Dahl had the opportunity to realize his dream of his own concert hall in Copenhagen. This marked the beginning of Mogens Dahl Concert Hall, where prestigious chamber music series with prominent international names are regularly held.

Mogens Dahl is trained at the Department of Musicology in Aarhus and the Royal Academy of Music in Denmark, supplemented with studies with Eric Ericson and Jorma Panula.
