A classical choir with fixed routines and tried-and-tested concepts?
Think again. Mogens Dahl Chamber Choir is a unique international choral project that breaks with tradition both artistically and organizationally.
Mogens Dahl Chamber Choir's foremost goal is to influence the future agenda for vocal music in the Nordic region. The repertoire is particularly marked by a love for the Nordic choral sound and the Nordic linguistic tone.
Why do the leading composers of the Nordic countries love to write new music for the ensemble? One reason could be that on its international tours to cities like Berlin, Halle, Stockholm, Bergen, and Reykjavik, the choir has demonstrated its delicate approach to contemporary vocal art. For example, Mogens Dahl Chamber Choir premiered Nordic Mass by Sven-David Sandström at the Bergen International Festival in 2014 and had the world premiere of the same composer’s The Passion of St. John at Konzerthaus Berlin in 2015.
Conductor Mogens Dahl has aimed to create a flexible ensemble that dares to explore new paths in the world of vocal music. A pool of 40 young singers from near and far forms the backbone of the choir, which since its inception in 2005 has garnered significant attention with its innovative concert, festival, and CD projects.
Collaborations with partners such as the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, Brooklyn Rider, and Athelas Sinfonietta attest to the ensemble's artistic range and international outlook.
