Per Gunnar Petersson

Per Gunnar Petersson graduated in organ, improvisation, and composition from the University of Music in Vienna in 1977. He then pursued musicology at Lund University and music pedagogy at the Malmö Conservatory of Music. Per Gunnar Petersson boasts an impressive portfolio comprising nearly 100 works, primarily for choir and organ, with most of them being available through Gehrmans Musikforlag.

For many years, Petersson and Mogens Dahl have maintained a close collaboration, which is set to further solidify from 2024 onwards.

Per Gunnar Petersson recalls: “I remember how a Danish choir conductor named Mogens Dahl called me sometime in the 1990s, and after some initial language confusion, I understood the purpose of his call. Mogens Dahl was leading a talented choir called Det Jyske Kammerkor, and they wished to perform my composition ‘Aftonland’ using French horn instead of English horn. I naturally agreed to this, and it fit perfectly!

Sometime after that, Mogens Dahl commissioned the composition ‘Libera me,’ and since then, our collaboration has continued. For many years, it has involved the Mogens Dahl Chamber Choir and several performances of various works of mine. I am very pleased with this collaboration and consider it both an honor and a source of inspiration to now take on the role of Composer in Residence.”
